Kelly Baskin (b. 1995) focuses her work primarily in oil painting using a hyper-realist approach. Originally from Aurora, Ontario, she is a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours candidate at Queen’s University, with a minor in Art History. Her thesis work uses meticulous detail to construct illusions of an informed world; a new, more mystical reality that is not seen in a photograph. She is inspired by the idea of a hyper-gaze. A gaze where if you blink, you snap back into reality and fall short of experiencing the feeling of another dimension free of linear narratives. Her series study shown in //FWD: exhibits snapshots of animals, nature, and how they are seen through her hyper-gaze. Baskin’s work has been exhibited throughout Ontario including Kingston, Vaughan, and Aurora. Her work is currently exhibited in Magnotta Winerys permanent art collection and utilized for upcoming wine label artwork.
